Distinguishing Web sources

When I was in high school lot of my classes gave us assignments that we do research on our own and present what we learned or found out through our research. Most of the time it required to go on the website however I was always unsure if I was on right website. I was worried if the information they're providing is truth or not, or it's just somebody's assumptions. From this online academic research terms and conditions, I get to deepen my knowledge and understand about different types of websites. By using this new knowledge, whenever I go on the website for research, I get to determine whatever this page is primary or secondary sources, or if it is academic or not.

  1. Very glad 1.5.6 Online Academic Research Facts deepened your knowledge and understanding about different types of websites and helped you determine whether a source is primary vs. secondary and whether it is academic or not ^_^

That knowledge will help you do 1.5.7 Activity: Identify Sources, which is part of D04 Unique Topic 1.5.7 Sources Comparison :-)

  4. This chapter reminded me of an ongoing battle I have with my mother since she believes Facebook is "The Source". I can't count how many times I've mentioned is not reliable and she shouldn't trust it. Apparently, I'm in the wrong...

  5. I agree that it can be hard to tell which websites are factually based and which ones aren't so I'm glad that you're learning how to tell them apart.

  6. For me this was difficult as well just because growing up back in days if we have research and presentation to do we want to library and read throw the book and figure it out. But now that I come to the state and currently enrolled in school and we get asked to do research cite the work I struggle with it.

  7. I love your fonts! It's giving SpongeBob. Very under the ocean vibes. I do agree that websites could be really hard to identify which is reliable and which is not. I still struggle till this day whenever I have to do research for my assignments.

  8. There is a lot of misinformation and bias out there. I agree that we need to be diligent when reviewing or searching for our sources. Not only does this lead to being more educated on a subject, but being able to gather our own opinions and genuine thoughts without having to worry about being influenced by a particular article. Knowing what we are looking at is a great help for sure.

  9. I remember a commercial from many years ago that said if it's online, it's true. The internet doesn't lie. Well, we all know that is far from the truth. You can make up anything; if you are convincing, someone will believe you. When researching, I search multiple sites to see if the information matches and if my source is reliable.

  10. I also have struggled with telling the difference between sources. It is very important to know due to the fact that many classes require this type of knowledge. What I do agree with is that it is important to know this information so you can find verified facts for assignments.

  11. The internet seems to have more faulty information than facts these days. There are more and more blog sites reporting news that they are getting from other blog sites. If one isn't careful where they're getting their information, they run the risk at being another link in the telephone game of modern news.

  12. With everything that's floating around in the webspace, it is a good practice to be weary of the sources you are pulling your information from. I'm sure that your cautious approach resulted in solid and credible knowledge for you to learn from.
